The actress, who also appeared in CaptainMarvel, is in final negotiations to star as kindly teacher Miss Honey in the movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The character was played by Embeth Davidtzin the original 1996 movie and is well-known for encouraging Matilda and her gifts. It was previously reported that the likes of Killing Eve’s Jodie Comer and Emma Stone were in the running to play Miss Honey.
Matilda the Musical is set to be directed by Matthew Warchus and is adapted from Tim Minchin’s stage show of the same name, which has been running in London’s West End since 2011 and is itself adapted from the RoaldDahl classic.
It was previously reported that evil headmistressMiss Trunchbull will be played by Lynch’s fellow James Bond castmate Ralph Fiennes, though it’s currently unclear who’s in line for the other major roles.
The movie is set for a cinema release from sony, before streaming on Netflix, and while filming was planned for the autumn, it seems to have been pushed back due to the pandemic.
Matilda follows the gifted young titular character, who possesses powers of telekinesis but is mistreated by her parents and headmistress. However, she uses her powers to overcome rascals and forms a strong bond with Miss Honey.

There’s no proper permission for the release date. According to the Production Weekly reports the date of Matilda the Musical will release on Netflix in early 2021.
